Fr. Troy Nevins and I are excited to announce that our two parishes, St. Paul the Apostle and Immaculate Heart of Mary, will unify efforts for youth ministry for the upcoming school year. Stefanie Iwan, well-experienced in youth ministry and with a deep passion for youth, will be leading this important area of our parish’s life beginning July 1. The great majority of students who graduate from our schools go to Catholic Central and enjoy friendships with each other. Many are neighbors. Our children play together and often compete on the same sports teams. The physical and spiritual closeness of our parishes is such that it makes sense to strengthen our collaboration in an area such as this. For St. Paul’s youth this means that we will be able to offer retreats, mission trips and other opportunities in addition to weekly meetings. Later this month a group from St. Paul will travel with IHM youth to Steubenville, OH, for a widely popular series of summer youth gatherings. Stefanie will be present at both parishes and interact with our youth at both schools, as well as the main high schools our parishioners attend. However, preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation will be held separately, as our calendars differ for the celebration at the Cathedral. Our Middle School Collaborative Youth Ministry (“EDGE”) will take place on Wednesday nights at St. Paul, while High School Youth Ministry (“Life Night”) will be at IHM on Sunday nights. In the upcoming weeks and months, there will be more communication on this. For now we wanted to share this exciting news! Your input is very important to me and Stefanie. I want to thank all who have helped me to prayerfully discern this new path for our parish youth, and I look forward to working with all our parents and volunteers to make our youth outreach thriving in the upcoming year.
